My experience with IQOS ILUMA ONE and why I now have a VEEV ONE e-cigarette

Hi, I'm Anička and you might know me from our IQFAN magazine on Youtube. Together with friends, we shoot reviews, tips and experiences with IQOS there. Today I'll write to you about what's better: IQOS or the VEEV ONE e-cigarette?

I switched to IQOS so long ago I don't even remember when – it's been years. I had the first IQOS 2.4+ and then all the subsequent ones. It was a big change, and I'm happy about it – you've certainly heard that you get rid of the smell, the cough, and I also saved money when you add it up over a year, because cigarettes are simply more expensive. 

Switching from IQOS 3 DUO to ILUMA

And a similar change came when I first tried the IQOS ILUMA – it was a completely different ballgame. It was no longer bitter, the vapour doesn't burn your tongue, and the new TEREA consumables draw perfectly. And honestly, I don't miss having to fiddle with the holder every few minutes and clean out that mess – with ILUMA that's not needed. I recommend the IQOS ILUMA review, which is worth reading, or the section with other people's IQOS experiences. 

Life with IQOS ILUMA ONE

I tried all the models and in the end I chose the ONE. The pocket ILUMA is also great – I enjoyed swapping the doors and rings, and the separate holder was nicely small in the hand, but the ONE won because it seemed more practical to me – it doesn't get in the way in my handbag and it's simply all-in-one.

I also like the indication of remaining smoking time via the lights – as you approach the end of the consumable, the lights decrease. That's a feature the standard ILUMA doesn't have, because the holder only has two lights (it can do a vibrating tap, but that's not practical).

Advantages and drawbacks

But there were drawbacks too. What bothered me most was that the ONE didn't start heating automatically when I inserted the consumable – a feature I loved on the pocket ILUMA. Yet if you remove the consumable, the ONE switches itself off, so it does know whether a consumable is inside or not – it's just a software restriction on the manufacturer's part. A shame. 

Then there's of course the battery life – I haven't calculated it precisely, but the standard ILUMA definitely lasted me much longer than a pack, while the ONE barely made it. I don't smoke that much, so it didn't limit me. You can compare batteries in the IQOS parameter catalogue. 

Watch out for the sliding cap. It's an addictive little toy – you keep "clicking" it :-). That wouldn't be a problem, but twice the little button turned and popped out to the side. Luckily it could be turned back, but I read in the IQOS CZ/SK Facebook group that someone's spring broke completely and they had to send it in for a warranty claim. 

ILUMA ONE vs. VEEV

And then came the ban on flavouring tobacco consumables. On top of that, I found that TEREA consumables were costing me more and more money, mainly because I ended up compared to cigarettes puffing even in bed – I definitely don't recommend anyone change their habits; if you used to smoke only on the balcony, stick to that with IQOS too. And because I have a job where there isn't much time for a whole consumable, I tried VEEV. 

VEEV is an e-cigarette that heats a liquid consumable in a capsule; two types are sold:

• VEEV NOW – review – a disposable stick for roughly 500 puffs.
• VEEV ONE – review – a holder with replaceable capsules for 1000 puffs.

At first I was a bit afraid – I'd tried old e-cigarettes back in the day, but I couldn't stand the clouds of vapour, the constant fixing, replacing coils and whatnot. With the disposable VEEV NOW you buy it, take off the rubber cap and vape. No clouds of smoke, just the right amount of vapour so you don't choke, and above all the flavours! VEEV ONE is the best

And since the disposable VEEV NOW works out considerably more expensive, I immediately got myself the VEEV ONE, for which you buy replaceable capsules and for the same price you get two, good for 1000 puffs. VEEV ONE lasts for a whole capsule on a single charge and then charges in about three quarters of an hour, which is quite a bit less than the ILUMA ONE. Take a look at the VEEV ONE video review I shot with Míša.

I enjoy the VEEV ONE – actually, I only use IQOS at home for the taste, and I carry the e-cigarette with me. You can take a puff or two anytime, and it's so tiny it then disappears into your pocket, so no more awkward puffing at the bus stop when the bus happens to arrive. 

And it smells lovely – it doesn't bother anyone with smoke, although it's true that everyone can immediately tell whether you're having mango or strawberry, but nobody has yelled at me yet. And when you fancy a different capsule, you can keep switching them – just pull it out and, without turning it off, click a different flavour onto the magnet. 

Conclusion: What is better?

For me, the decision is fairly clear – in the end, the VEEV ONE spends most of the time in my pocket. It tastes great, doesn't bother anyone and works out much cheaper than TEREA consumables for the IQOS ILUMA. That said, I can't say I've turned my back on the ILUMA ONE – after all, its taste is closer to cigarettes, and when I want to treat myself, I reach for it.
